Winter Skincare Essentials - Head to Toe
I believe that pampering yourself is a perfect way to escape those winter blues that most of us feel during this time of the year. Also, with the holidays and traveling, it can be really hard for many of us to find some alone time. It is, therefore, all the more important that we find outlets to relax and refresh our body and mind.
In this post, I will dwell into some detail on how to care for your skin during the harsh and dry winter months.
Cold and dry air makes the skin dry, irritated and flaky, which of course we all know but most of us don't know why that happens. The outermost layer of the skin, which holds moisture in and acts as a natural barrier, is damaged during harsh weathers. This causes moisture loss from the skin and leads to dry, red and flaky skin that we commonly experience during the winter. To restore moisture back into the skin it is important to look for products with hyaluronic acid, ceramides and humectants.
Here are some products that work wonders on parched up winter skin.
We all hate waiting for our body lotions to get absorbed into our skin and some of us do not even have the time to moisture. A perfect alternative from a regular body lotion is an in shower lotion by Nivea. All you have to do is massage it all over your body and cleanse it off with water and you are left with a deeply moisturized skin.
Here are some products that work wonders on parched up winter skin.
Toner
Recipe Energy Boosting Toner |
This hydrating toner contains tremella mushroom extract that deeply hydrates and balances the skin.
Essence
This essence by Hanskin contains a special form of hyaluronic acid that can hold 1,000 times more moisture than water. This a perfect winter time essence to keep your skin hydrated and supple at all times.
Moisturizer
The Belif moisturizing bomb is one of the most hydrating moisturizers I have tried so far. It is soo rich and creamy in texture. You will be surprised how quickly it gets absorbed into your skin for a cream with such thick consistency. This moisturizer promises to keep your skin hydrated for up to 26 hours and for those of you with oily skin, Belif's Aqua Bomb is a lighter alternative.
Eye Cream
This eye cream really stands out for its star ingredient, avocado oil. It is deeply hydrating and is a perfect base for under eye makeup.
Face Oil
Winter skincare is all about layering and I love to add a facial oil on days when my skin feels extremely dull and flaky. Two amazing face oils are the Marula Oil from The Ordinary and the Kora Organics Noni Oil.
Overnight Sleeping Mask
I have extremely dry skin and all the humidity in the air during the winters only makes my skin even more dry and lackluster. I find that ending my skincare with a moisturizer is not enough so I add a sleeping mask to my regime. I promise you that you will wake up the next morning with dewy and supple skin.
Lip Balm
Dry and chapped lips are not a pleasant sight to look at and dry lips are one of the first tell tale signs that your skin is dehydrated. My personal favorite is the lip sleeping mask by Laneige.
Hand cream
We usually tend to neglect our hands and one of the first places that start showing signs of aging are your hands. Our hands do most of the work for us and are usually exposed to harsh conditions. Thus, using a hand cream is even more necessary during the winter months. A favourite of mine are the handcreams by L'Occitane which are made with shea butter to keep your hands hydrated at all times.
